Committee for the Promotion of Gender Equality

Background of the Committee’s Establishment

With the enforcement of the Basic Act for a Gender-Equal Society in 1999, the Japan Inter-Society Liaison Association for Promoting Equal Participation of Men and Women in Science and Engineering was established in 2002. As part of this broader movement, the Ichthyological Society of Japan organized its own Committee for Gender Equality in 2007.

Activities

Through surveys and awareness-raising efforts related to gender equality within the society, the committee identifies issues and works toward enabling all members—regardless of gender—to engage in research, education, conservation, and other activities related to ichthyology. In addition, as a member of the Liaison Association, the committee participates in activities such as large-scale questionnaire surveys.
