Symposium on Systematics and Diversity of Fishes

Organizers: Gento Shinohara (s-gento@kahaku.go.jp), Masanori Nakae (nakae@kahaku.go.jp) and Keiichi Matsuura (matsuura@kahaku.go.jp) Department of Zoology, National Museum of Nature and Science, Tsukuba.

This symposium will be organized to share information on recent progresses in studies on systematics and diversity of fishes. Seven experts will be invited to present their papers. The symposium will be supported by the National Museum of Nature and Science.
In the afternoon of the next day, 7 July, four special talks on fishes will be given in Japanese to the general public in the same venue.

Satellite symposium
The filter feeding elasmobranchs: Unraveling their many mysteries
Saturday, 29 June 2013, Venue: Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium

The main objective of the symposium is to share information on recent advances in the biology of filter-feeding sharks and rays, and to discuss the potential of captive biology. This meeting will focus on the ecology, reproduction, habitat, and functional morphology of the whale shark, basking shark, megamouth shark, and manta rays. This symposium will be co-hosted by Okinawa Churashima Research Center and Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium.

Other information

Access to Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium
Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium locates about 90km north of Naha City. Okinawa Churashima Foundation will provide free shuttle buses from Naha City (Bus stop at Makishi and Omoromachi Stations) to Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium in the morning on the 28th and 29th June.

Welcome reception
Welcome reception by the participants of the symposium will be held after the symposium.

Accommodation
We are very pleased to support your stay in Motobu. Please ask us if you need our help to book a room around the aquarium on the 29th, and extend stay for visiting aquarium and examine specimens in Okinawa Churashima Research Center.
